What are we doing today? Let’s show gratitude! Why? How?

It is good for you! A lot of research shows:

  • Gratitude opens the door to more relationships. …
  • Gratitude improves physical health. …
  • Gratitude improves psychological health. …
  • Gratitude enhances empathy and reduces aggression. …
  • Grateful people sleep better. …
  • Gratitude improves self-esteem.

Let’s create some Scratch projects that express our gratitude. Let’s use our story telling chops to share how we are grateful. Let’s pick a couple sprites and have them be stand ins for us and people (or things ) we are grateful for.

In our coding do you remember how to “say” something in Scratch? How about the mechanisms to simulate a conversation? You can using timing or things can be (more advanced {you can do it!!!}) event driven.

Can you add sound (including music) to your gratitude message? How about interactivity? Can you make your project react to sound above a certain level? Do you have a camera on your coding platform? Can you make your project react to motion in the video image?

Can you make your gratitude project a piece of art as well? Maybe you can direct color change or line drawings through key strokes, mouse movement or the above suggestions of sound or video! Oooh this sounds fun. I can’t wait to try some of these things.
